Letter to Parents re: HDSB's Acceptable Use Policy and Authorization for Promotional Use of Student Photos / Work / Activities Form:

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In accordance with the Halton District School Board’s Acceptable Use Procedures for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), I am writing this letter to tell you a little bit about our class’s intentions when using 21st Century tools.

It is no secret that we live in an age where technology is prevalent in all aspects of life. It is my goal to ensure that students are comfortable and familiar with the various tools and resources available to them and that they understand the impacts their actions may have when using them.

There will be a number of times throughout the school year where we will incorporate these tools into our lessons, projects, and overall classroom communications. My intention is to educate the students on proper and safe use of various online tools, and how to create a healthy online footprint. We will learn about safeguarding personal information, as well as how to collaborate and contribute to shared resources.

Please feel free to take a look at the Board’s Acceptable Use policy and let me know what questions you may have (link below). As we move through the school year, I will periodically update you on what technologies we are using and how we are using them. Please follow our classroom blog (link) if you are interested in learning more about what we are doing in class on a regular basis.
